How much does a local move in Houston cost?
Local moves start at $119/hour for a 2-mover crew with the truck, blankets, and dollies included. After a quick walkthrough or video survey we lock a flat written rate, so the number we quote is the number you pay — no hourly surprises on move day.
Are you licensed and insured in Texas?
Yes. House Moving Houston holds Texas TxDMV intrastate authority and USDOT/MC authority for interstate moves, plus $1 million in cargo coverage on every job. We’re glad to provide our credentials and a Certificate of Insurance for your building.
Do you handle Houston high-rise and apartment moves?
Absolutely. We move in and out of Galleria, Midtown, and Montrose towers daily. We file the building COI, reserve the freight elevator, and plan the load around your move-in window so nothing stalls at the dock.
How far in advance should I book my move?
Two to three weeks is ideal for weekend and month-end dates. Weekday and mid-month moves can often be booked a few days out, and when a crew is open we’re glad to take same-day and last-minute jobs — just call (713) 426-8195.
Do you require a deposit?
Most local Houston moves need no deposit at all — we simply confirm by phone the day before. A small refundable deposit holds your date for larger and long-distance moves, and it’s applied to your final balance.
What areas of Houston do you serve?
We’re based in Downtown Houston and cover all of Harris County — The Heights, Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, Spring, Pearland, The Woodlands, and more — plus Fort Bend, Montgomery, Galveston, and Brazoria counties.
Do you offer packing services?
Yes — full-service packing where we box your whole home, or partial packing for just the kitchen, fragile items, or whatever you’d rather not handle yourself. We bring all the boxes, paper, and tape.
Can I pack myself to save money?
Definitely. Many customers pack their own boxes and leave the furniture and heavy lifting to us. We’re also glad to pack only the breakables if you prefer. Your written quote spells out exactly what we’re handling.
Do you sell boxes and packing supplies?
We do — boxes, tape, paper, bubble wrap, and specialty cartons for dishes, wardrobes, and TVs. We can deliver them ahead of your move so you can pack at your own pace.
How do you handle Houston’s summer heat on move day?
We start early to beat the worst of the heat, keep crews hydrated, and stage heat-sensitive items like electronics, candles, and artwork out of direct sun. Our trucks are loaded efficiently so your belongings spend as little time as possible in the Texas heat.
What happens if it rains or there’s a storm?
We move rain or shine, floor-protecting and shrink-wrapping everything to keep it dry. Only severe weather that makes driving unsafe — like a tropical storm or flooding — would push a date, and we’d reschedule right away at no penalty.
Do you move pianos and specialty items?
Yes. We move upright and grand pianos, gun safes, pool tables, and other heavy or awkward items with the proper boards, dollies, and straps. Just flag them when you book so we bring the right crew and gear.
Can you provide a Certificate of Insurance for my building?
Yes, and we do it routinely for Houston high-rises and apartment complexes. Send us your building’s requirements when you book and we’ll issue the COI naming the management before move day at no charge.
Are there items you won’t move?
For safety and legal reasons we can’t take hazardous materials like propane, gasoline, paint, or chemicals, plus perishable food and ammunition. We’ll give you a full list when you book so there are no surprises.
Do you offer storage?
We offer short-term climate-controlled storage for when your move-out and move-in dates don’t line up. Your items stay wrapped and secured, and we deliver them when you’re ready.
How do long-distance moves out of Texas work?
We run long-distance moves under our own USDOT authority with a binding written quote and GPS-tracked transport. The same crew that loads in Houston stays with your shipment — no brokers, no load boards, no warehouse transfers.
Do you move offices and businesses?
We do. We handle office and commercial relocations across Houston, often after hours or on weekends to keep your downtime to a minimum.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers. Final payment is due on completion once everything is delivered and you’ve done your walkthrough — you’ll always know the total before we finish.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel or reschedule up to 48 hours before your move and any deposit is fully refunded. We don’t believe in penalizing people whose plans change — the sooner you let us know, the easier it is to free up the date.
Should I tip the movers?
Tipping is never required and our quote is complete as-is, but it’s always appreciated for hard work in the Houston heat. Customers commonly tip 10–20% of the move cost split among the crew, or a flat amount per mover — entirely up to you.
